Personal Statement:
Taking care of a human being when they are sick and most vulnerable represents the highest challenge for any one of us. This is hard enough when the patient can communicate and becomes a daunting task when critically ill on life support and unable to interact. When I entered the Intensive Care Unit for the first time during my residency training I realized quickly what I wanted to do in “Medicine”. I have been a physician for 30 years and to this day hospital medicine and particularly taking care of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit makes all my sacrifices to become a physician worthwhile.
